Since Woman Crush Wednesday (#WCW...duh) is totally a thing that doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon, we thought this first Wednesday in March would be the perfect opportunity to make good on our idea to honor Women's History Month by celebrating the now.
Over the next four Wednesdays, we'll be selecting four ladies that are serving up #Chickspiration on the daily. First up, Blavity founder and total #WCE (Woman Crush Everyday...again, duh) Morgan DeBaun.
As fans of Blavity for about a year now, we'd never really heard Morgan's personal story until she was featured in Cadillac's 'Dare Greatly' campaign. You probably saw it during the Grammy's. If you didn't you can check out her full spot up top. In a world saturated with online content, this St. Louis native tapped into a significant need for African American millennials: a platform that empowers, uplifts, and provides a mic for your voice.
Along with co-founder Aaron Samuels - and minus any venture capital funding (YOU GO GUYS!), Morgan launched Blavity in order to establish a community specifically designed to engage Black millennials. After setting it's foundation as a newsletter, Blavity.com added accessibility and a home base for those notable influencers searching for a place to connect. Now, through the site and several social platforms, Blavity reaches about 400 readers per minute and includes everything from op-eds to lifestyle content - including a HEE.LARRY.US. ode to "pick me Twitter." I laughed from a deep place.
So, what's next for Blavity? Morgan is planning global domination. “The future of Blavity is an integrated network of multicultural creators across the world that support each other financially, emotionally, and physically...the best thing someone can do is just start," she told Dare Greatly.
We're totally here for it, Morgan. Bring on the turn up.
