We've seen a ton of campaigns recently aimed at getting women to remember how badass we are. In my humble opinion, one can never get enough of "Hey. You're different and that's awesome" in a world that tells us to be the opposite. However, Dove has been doing this for years so, they've earned an OG place in the female empowerment game. Plus, their deodorant is A1.
Now, the storied brand unveils a new initiative with one mission: define your own damn beauty. As a woman, I've totally felt (and still feel) pressures to look and be a certain way. External standards will manifest into internalized obsessions if you don't find some sort of "EFF YOU" moment. With #MyBeautyMySay, Dove is hoping to issue a reminder that your beauty is your business.
“Somewhere along the way, it has become the norm to judge women based on their appearance. Dove created #MyBeautyMySay because we believe a woman’s beauty should not be used to belittle her achievements — instead, her beauty should be celebrated on her terms,” said Dove’s marketing director Jennifer Bremner. “We want women to challenge this behavior that has unfortunately become commonplace in our society. We are giving all women a platform to speak out and join us to change the conversation.”
Girl power, indeed.
