When February hit, we knew we'd be bombarded with gift guides and the very best of 'What To Get Your Girl/Guy for Valentine's Day.' Nothing wrong with that BUT, for those of us who will be cruising through 2/14 without a significant other, our gal-pals (I'm speaking exclusively from my own personal experience) make the squad celebrations kind of epic and altogether girl powered.
So, because Valentine's Day isn't just about celebrating a significant other or shedding a thug tear over your single-hood (please don't do this ladies!) we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to gift your galentine's for being awesome human beings. That said, here are 9 gifts ideas (plus a few more) designed to show your besties just how loved they are.
1. Let It Burn
As I get older, I cherish good fragrances. Basically, I'm totally understanding why my mother bought expensive candles for our house when I was younger. So, when I stumbled upon Candlessentials I knew I'd found a winner. The Los Angeles-based line of handmade candles are 100 percent soy wax and made completely, from box to brim, sans the animal products or unnatural additives.
In addition to being made with the earth in mind, the candle’s boxes are embedded with actual seeds, thus offering an innovative take on disposal. After removing the box’s labels, soak it in water, plant it, and you'll actually have your own wildflowers. So, two gifts in one for your bestie! WIN! Also, 10 percent of the company’s annual sales are donated to Lori’s Daughter, a foundation which helps provide guidance, education, life skills, work ethic, and health awareness to women facing trauma or difficulties.
2. Kick It
I'm a fan of being able to rock my sneakers with a dress or a jumpsuit primarily because heels and I have a very short tolerance for one another. So, when I was gifted with these patent leather Puma Basket Heart sneakers a few weeks ago, I knew they'd be a pair of sneaks I could pull out for that Galentine's Day dinner with the girls. If you're looking to grab yourself a pair or one for your favorite fellow sneaker lover, click below.
3. Scarf Swag
We're fans of brands that give back because, to whom much is given, much is required. Right? I came across Bené Scarves last week and I was instantly smitten. These beautiful scarves are 100 percent silk and are inked with custom designs inspired by West African textiles. Each scarf purchased goes towards sponsoring a young girl in Ghana. Bené helps provide tuition, books, supplies, and uniforms for girls in order for them to continue their education. In addition to receiving a beautiful scarf in the mail, you will also receive a note from one of the girls. The gift that keeps on giving, right?
4. Ladies Is Bosses, Too
For those of us who still use number 2 pencils, this is an awesome gift. The Boss Lady Pencil Set, created by Icey Designs, comes with 9 engraved 'Boss Lady' cream and pink pencils. Gift it to your favorite girl boss or grab one for yourself. You can also browse more designs perfect for your favorite writer or Boss Lady.
5. Catch These Hands
What better way to say 'catch these hands' than with a bit of bling on your fingers? Around these parts, we're huge fans of Melody Ehsani's colorful Reebok collections so, when we spotted these gold babies we knew they'd be perfect for a girl gang galentine's reunion. While both of these rings are a bit pricey, both ringing (pun intended) in at about $40 USD, you can shop Melody's e-store sales to grab the perfect bit of discounted bling for your homegirls.
6. Write It Down
One of the best gifts I received last Galentine's Day was a journal. To this day, I carry it with me everywhere and it literally has been the place I write my daily to-do lists and jot down ideas or random thoughts. Relatively inexpensive (this Eccolo Metallic Corners Journal is only $12), these journals are the perfect thing to add to your Galentine's gift bag. Make sure you add one of those Boss Lady pencils as well!
7. Gifting The Old Fashioned Way

Gift cards make great gifts, especially if the giftee is a sneaker lover. If your homegirl is known for rocking heat, contribute to the cause with a gift card from her favorite shoe brand. Usually starting at $20, Nike gift cards in particular can even be emailed. So, if you're celebrating G-Day away from your homies this year, slide into that inbox with a little bit of love.
P.S. These Aire Jordan 1 Retro High OG GS "Valentine's Day 2017" sneakers are out on February 11th. Just in case you were wondering.
8. Drop That Beat
One of my friends is a makeup fiend (Hi Kitty!) so, getting her something to add to her glam stash is pretty much a home run. This affordable (seriously...it's only $15) make up palette designed for BH Cosmetics by YouTube beauty vlogger and makeup artist Shannon Harris aka Shaaanxo, boasts dynamic and down-to-earth shades that add up to a multitude of wearable looks that flatter a variety of skin tones.
Basically, your home girl will love you long time.
9. Major Keys
As much as I love gifts that give back, I love gifts that spread inspiration and reminders of grace. The folks at The Giving Keys do just that and more with a collection of key jewelry (necklances, earrings, and bracelets) designed to help the wearer embrace their word, then pay it forward to anyone who needs the message.
This $30 bangle bracelet comes in either gold or silver and can be personalized with your favorite 8 character inspirational word. You can even purchase individual keys to keep your bracelet full of positive vibes.
Here's the best part: every product you purchase supports job creation for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. To date, The Giving Keys has provided 70+ job opportunities to people transitioning out of homelessness, impacting lives through the power of a Pay It Forward community.
