Every week, 'Fit Chicks' will highlight attire, tips, and (of course!) sneakers that make it perfect for you to get your sweat on in style. We’ll also hip you to some of our favorite weekend hang sessions and interactions with like-minded ladies because, we love showing love!
If you’ve been following our #FitChicks posts for awhile, you know just how obsessed Brit is with Smoothies. While most of us are downing oatmeal or egg whites for breakfast, you can usually catch her with a cup of something colorful. We both, however, love pie. I know you just probably got whip lash, but stick with me for a second. When we were planning our February calendar and realized that in addition to being Black History Month, February is also National Pie Month, we were ELATED.
So, we decided that it was ultra important to fuse two of our favorite eats (pies and smoothies - now you see where I was going, huh?) in a fun and healthy way to honor this month of PIE. Take a peek below at 5 smoothies that will make you think you’ve just cut into your favorite slice.
Apple Pie Smoothie
Since this particualar post is partially inspired by Brit's love of smoothies you know we had to include one of her very own recipies. This Apple Pie Smoothie is the perfect dose of sweet all-American goodness without those all-American processed additives. JOY COMETH.
2 apples ( I used pink ladies)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tbsp Honey
1 frozen banana
½ cup Plain or Vanilla Greek Yogurt
Add all ingredients in your blender and push blend.
If you desire a thinner consistency add ice and if you would like to make this a green smoothie add a handful of spinach and it still tastes great.
Peach Pie Smoothie Bowl
If your anything like us, oatmeal gets hella boring in the AM. Switching it up is necessary to keep yourself excited about your healthy eating habits, right? So, since we have a plethora of sip-ready options we thought we'd incorporate something you can spoon for breakfast - AND get a dose of one of our favorite pie flavors. Win and win. This Peach Pie Smoothie Bowl courtesy of Spoonful of Flavor is perfect for your morning pick-me-up.
A thick, creamy, protein filled peach smoothie with all the flavors of peach pie! You can serve it in a bowl topped with granola, almonds, and fresh peach slices. THIS LOOKS SO GOOD!
1 1/2 cups frozen peaches
1/2 cup milk of choice
3/4 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
1 scoop unflavored or vanilla protein powder (optional)
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon honey, use more if you like it sweeter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of nutmeg
Fresh peach slices, granola, and toasted sliced almond for toppings
In a blender add all of the ingredients except the toppings and blend until smooth.
Pour the smoothie into a bowl and top with fresh peach slices, granola, and toasted almond slices.
Key Lime Pie Smoothie
When we think of decadent desserts that we only have once in a blue moon, Key Lim Pie is definitely top 5 on that list. The scrumptious pie is absolute heaven on the tastebuds, but all that sugar wrecks havoc on your fitness goals. BUT, where there's a blender there is a way. The folks at Eye Candy Popper provided proof with their gorgeous Key Lime Pie Smoothie.
We haven't tried this one yet (I forgot to grab some Dates and I don't have Maple Syrup in the house) but we'll definitely be putting our blender to the test this weekend. Try along with us using the instructions below.
1/2 can coconut milk (approx. 200 ml/7 oz) OR 3 Tbsp shredded coconut + 1 1/2 cup filtered water
1 organic lime, juice + zest (because we’re using the zest in this recipe, it is important to only use organic, and wash it first)
1 big handful organic baby spinach
1/2 avocado OR 1/2 banana
3-4 dates OR 2 Tbsp maple syrup
1 Tbsp hemp seeds
1 thick slice pineapple (1/2 – 1″ thick)
1-2 ice cubes (optional)
Blend everything in a high powered blender, add a bit of extra water if it’s too thick
