It's that time again, folks. The weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and the NFL Draft gave us all a bit more insight into how our respective teams will fare this year. For us, the draft hit especially close to home (LITERALLY) because this year it was held in our own backyard (not literally) as the house that Jerry built took the reigns as draft HQ. As blessings would have it, we were invited to take in some of the pre-draft festivities with our family as Nike Dallas and Nike Football.
Last Wednesday we made our way up to Frisco for yet another visit at Jerry's second largest venture, The Star. Nike rolled out the blue carpet for an invite-only event which found many of Dallas' media and influencers on hand to see some special Swoosh drops honoring the Draft and Cowboys nation in a way that was both nostalgic and undeniably current.
When you think of the draft, most of us think of our favorite picks past from our favorite teams but, Nike challenged us to think more about the experience from a players perspective with their Handshakes and Hugs Collection. Designed by Hance Taplin, the collection was curated around iconic moments in Cowboys draft history. From Michael Irvin's "Irvin to Irving" in 1988 to Troy Aikman's "Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys" conversation on of the first cell phones in 1989, this specialty drop was one with the player in mind.
In addition to the exclusive merch preview, we were also treated to a night of special guests. Our favorite Texas EKIN and homie Rollo took to the mic to interview Hance as well as the marquee guest: Mr. Michael Irvin. Irvin reminisced on his draft mindset, the growth of a player from draft to career, and imparted some special doses of wisdom.
With cocktails on tap, light bites in rotation, and our favorite DJ Poizon Ivy on the tables, we capped off our Nike night with a special Handshakes and Hugs caricature with my partner-in-crime FitXBrit. You can take a look at her recap from the evening on her site here.
All in all, we had a great time to Nike Dallas and we can't wait to return back to The Star. Go inside our evening by checking out the snaps below and the recap video up top.
