The Air Max 1 is one of my favorite classic silhouettes from the Swoosh. I’m always searching for new colorways that this sneaker pops up in. This latest iteration of the sneaker arrives in the form of a collaboration between Nike and Parra. Piet Parra is an Amsterdam based artist that is no stranger to the Swoosh. The pair has worked together on several projects with their first AM 1 collab dating back to 2005. This dynamic duo has produced some of the most coveted colorways and this new release is sure to be a crowd pleaser as well.
Since the last sneaker collab between the two was released almost a decade ago, the artist had the understandable pressure to produce something great. He wanted to make something that people who had never seen his work would look at and say “Wow, I’ve never seen something like this before.”
Inspired by the city and countryside, the shoe’s official colorway will be called “White/Pure Platinum.” The white mesh based upper is overlaid with suede elements that are covered in gorgeous colorful prints that create a striking contrast. The toe box is covered in white and grey diagonal stripes with “Parra” embroidered in a pretty pink on the outer area. Similarly, the heel is accented with the same stripes in shades of pink. The Nike branding is embroidered in grey in this area. Wrapped around the sides of the sneaker is a panel of white polka dots against a navy-blue background. Details on the shoe include the blue swoosh and orange lace eyelets. The sneaker is finished off with crisp white laces and midsole while the sole stands out with shades of blue, pink and red.
These shoes are a work of art, literally. Parra created the imagery first and then translated it to the sneaker for the ultimate mix of the art world and the sneaker world. This collab sneaker is slated to release July 21st for $150 USD at Nike and select stockists. If you’re digging these sporty and bold kicks, you can SHOP THE SNEAKS below on release day!
