Even though I fell in love with the Air Jordan 1 and the Air Jordan 12 gets an honorable mention, the AJ5 is one that helped get me hooked. Skipping school for the first time to head to the Galleria and pick up my kicks was a thrill (until my Mom got involved). In the early 2000s, the Air Jordan V ‘Laney’ colorway dropped paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s high school alma mater. It took the streets by storm and it’s back more than a decade later with an update.
The Air Jordan V ‘Varsity Royal’ utilizes the OG colors continuing MJs legacy through kicks. This time, the silhouette is dipped in the vibrant royal tones with accents of charcoal and maize. Another change is the paint splatter details near the shark teeth design on the midsole. The ‘Varsity Royal’ is dressed in nubuck versus leather.
