Wish List: Lucia Hierro Designed a Sneaker Good Enough to Eat

Images: Project Greenhouse

We learned about Greenhouse (Foot Locker, Inc.’s new incubator) a few weeks ago thanks to Instragram and the power of the scroll. The Greenhouse incubator is essentially a space dedicated to providing unconventional opportunities for artists and creatives. In turn, those of us who follow along are introduced to new designers, creators, brands, ideas, and collaborations. Basically, this a win/win.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Greenhouse teams up with adidas SPEEDFACTORY to transcend maps and flags and explore the cultural experiences that make Latin heritage so rich. With an exclusive collection of adidas SPEEDFACTORY sneakers, Greenhouse tapped three Hispanic-American artists: M. Tony Peralta (Dominican Republic/New York)Lucia Hierro (Dominican Republic/New York), and Bryan Avila aka The Producer BDB (Mexico/Los Angeles) for a collection commemorating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Latinx artists.

For us, Lucia Hierro’s iteration of the SPEEDFACTORY is good enough to eat. Lucia, who hails from the Washington Heights/Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, is an incredible Dominican-American soft sculpture artist with experience in a variety of mediums and a love for platanos. There’s no denying the significance of the Dominican staple food in Dominican culture but, the beauty of this design for us is that it reaches so many other geographical experiences as well.

Featured primarily on the sneaker’s upper, the shoe combines a mesh of platano imagery in rich greens, yellows, and hints of brown. Black and white speckled laces pair nicely with the upper and a crisp white midsole adds contrast for another level of color pop. Get a closer look at the AM4 PLATANOS below.

Brought to life utilizing the adidas' SPEEDFACTORY's technology whose mission is "moving at the speed of culture", the sneakers launch on Thursday, October 10th at 10 am ET exclusively on the Greenhouse app. Tap the link below to download the app and purchase.
