Vans x MoMA Drop 2 Is Coming Next Month
Back in September, Vans and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) came together to bring us a collection that was inspired by some of the most recognized works of modern art. It had a goal of engaging a broader audience with modern art and to spark creative expression and engage children with art. Now, Vans and MoMA are ready to drop their second installment which also includes some collaborative pieces with artist Faith RInggold.
The Vans x MoMA Collection Drop 2 continues on its goal of creating a genuine connection between art and footwear by carefully choosing works of modern art to be interpreted on Vans’ canvas footwear. The second drop is set to include a 9-piece collection of sneakers, apparel and accessories inspired by some iconic works such as ‘The Scream 1895’ by Edvard Much, ‘One: Number 31, 1950’ by Jackson Pollock, and ‘Untitled, 1917’ by Lybov Popova.
Some of the pieces of the collection were inspired by works of Faith RInggold, an acclaimed painter, writer, sculptor, performance artist, educator and activist whose body of work highlights her experiences with racism and social injustice. A Vans Era with the left shoe showcasing bold type that was inspired by Ringgold’s ‘Woman Free Yourself 1971’ while ‘Freedom Woman Now 1971’ poster art has been applied to the right side to form the affirmative demands that were called during the arrest of Angela Davis. The powerful words of ‘Freedom Woman Now 1971’ can be found on a shirt and reversible bucket hat as well. A second footwear style, the Classic Slip-On, is inspired by one of Ringgold’s first series of abstract paintings, ‘The Windows of the Wedding’ which was made in the 1970’s. Inscribed on the midsole is a quote that reads “My mother said I’d have to work twice as hard to go half as far.”
