Converse x UNION x Sheila Bridges | Release Date
The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star has served as a longtime blank canvas for storytelling. Their collaborations, both previous and upcoming, have allowed for other brands and individuals to share their messages and stories through footwear. Now, they’ve teamed up with UNION, a store with a decades-long mission to support diverse creatives, to release a collection that showcases the rich culture of Harlem.
The Converse x UNION Collection decided to tap Sheila Bridges, a New York-based interior designer known for her distinct furnishing approach. Bridges’ Harlem Toile is seen all throughout the collection and tells the story of her hometown, one that was born out of a desire to design a pattern that spoke to her personally. Exhibiting a duality of expression, the toile plays on African-American stereotypes while also celebrating African-American culture by taking the viewer through scenes of subjects jumping rope, playing basketball, dancing and having picnics, all in 18th-century attire. The collection includes a bucket hat, hoodie, and a Chuck Taylor All Star.
