SNEAKHER ASSEMBLY: CNK'S EDITORS CHAT ABOUT THE SHOE-LERY TREND
We're back with another SneakHER Assembly discussing a silhouette that's fitting for the cooler temperatures. If you're new to CNK's SneakHer Assembly, it is a series where the editors of the round sneakHER table come together to give our candid thoughts on what we like or dislike about a pair. Basically, we are spilling the tea on how we really feel.
Our topic for this SneakHER Assembly is the latest trend of accessorizing your kicks, often times referred to as ‘shoe-lery’. Basically, it’s where brands are adding jewels or extra hardware to your sneakers. This could constitute as studded jewels, blinged out dubraes, or link chains that you can customize to strap around your laces or ankle. We jumped into the conversation to decide if this is long-lasting sneakHER style or just a seasonal trend. Kick back and let’s talk about it.
YAQUELIN:
My style is very simple and when it comes to how I accessorize I usually wear the same staple pieces. I don’t like anything too flashy. However, I never play around when it comes to my sneakHERs and I let my footwear to all the talking. I like to say my footwear is where I take risks. When I first saw these, I knew I had to have them. For me, it always excites me when I see a sneakHER that can be customized to fit your individual style and I feel that that’s why this shoe does it for me. The chain can be used to adorn the shoe’s upper, can be removed and worn as an anklet, or be omitted completely. It’s a simple accessory that has just the right touch and makes for a standout sneakHER. Not to mention the color way on this pair is straight fire.
CASSIDY:
As a consumer in the sneaker world, we have been asking for design elements that tie into our personal style for quite some time. As a woman, I can say our jewelry is a critical component to any outfit. From the grocery store to brunch, I cover a mental checklist that includes my hoop earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. With that being said, adding jewelry to our sneakers would be seen as a given. I’m a fan of the anklets that are customized with our favorite footwear brands and dubraes that keep our laces fresh without going overboard on the bling. A piece ‘n chain for your sneakHERs can indeed be a cute flex.
YAQUELIN:
I can always appreciate a twist on a classic. The white AF1 low is a staple for any sneakHERhead. I currently have 3 pairs in my closet right now - a clean pair, a backup clean pair, and a pretty beat up pair that I just throw on whenever. The added lace touch on the tongue and jewel lace dubraes are different for me and add that little something extra. They add that feminine touch to a classic that I’m all about. The jewel lace dubraes on this sneakHER are subtle, completely interchangeable, and offers up a way to have this pair of AF1’s standout from the other pairs in your collection.
CASSIDY:
While I enjoy accessories that don’t overpower the sneaker’s overall look, there are some jewels I can do without. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of mixed materials on an upper, but jewels that might remind me of Ring Pops I wore as a child can take a pass. Any accessories on a pair of sneakers serve to elevate the sneakHER style or compliment a story, like the Air Jordan 1 x Melody Ehsani (with the watch dubrae).
Salute to all the brands that are adding elements supporting our need for versatility in our footwear options. We don’t anticipate this trend going anywhere anytime soon, but we hope that design teams are collectively thinking about how women wear their shoes on different occasions.
