Union LA x Air Jordan "Sophomore Album"

This year alone, we have seen a lot from Jordan Brand. From the extension of their collaboration with Off-White to their continued effort to drop some fire WMNS only sneakHERs. Outside of sneakHERs, the brand has also committed to donating $100 million over the next 10 years to the Black community. Jordan’s latest collaboration with Union LA, a black-owned streetwear brand, reminds us where we should be spending our dollars.

Before we get into the shoe lineup, it’s important to take a look at some of the details surrounding the collaboration. In an effort to encourage us to continue to support Black-owned business, Union LA tapped 5 independently-owned Black businesses to include in their gift bags that were sent out to some very lucky people. LA Coffee shop Harun Coffee, barber and arts programming initiative SON. Studios, LA -based community center Summaeverythang, soul food restaurant My 2 Cents LA, and chlorophyll drink brand Gorilla Life contributed items which included art, food, fresh produce and accessories as a way to amplify a very important message: continue to support businesses within our community as a continued effort towards reversing the effect of social and economic injustice in this country.

As far as the sneaker lineup goes, 4 silhouette options are set to drop. The AJ 4, which comes in Guava and Off Noir include detailing such as a suede inspired by that found on Birkenstock sandals, mesh that reflects that used in sneakers from the 80’s, an additional panel for a more balanced mesh-to-suede ratio, and a folded over tongue with a removable stitch to customize your sneakers according to your preference. The AJ Delta Mid in Off Noir brings together high-end material craftsmanship and high-tech construction methods with an upper constructed of breathable mesh and augmented lush suede overlays for daily wear. The AJ Zoom ‘92 in Guava is a blend of basketball tradition and Jordan Brand innovation and is inspired by elements from the Air Jordan VII, the Nike Air Max 180 and the Nike Air Force 5. The upper includes distorted layering that provides both detail and perceptual depth. All 4 options are finished off with a signature yellowed outsole for an antiqued feel. Scroll through the snaps below for a closer look at all 4 options.
