At the core of the sneakerhead holiday AKA Nike’s Air Max Day, is a moment of celebration. Not only a day of reflecting on our favorite Swoosh models, but a connection between past and present. We look forward to saluting Air Max heritage that is woven into the threads of present day innovative design. Since it’s inception in the late 1980s, Air Max has sat on the pillars of Nike’s design ethos. Each year the brand is constructing a new version of AIR and how functional style can elevate our sneaker game in a variety of ways.
The latest and greatest will debut for this year’s Air Max Day festivities - the Nike Air Max Pre-Day. The construction is a fusion of retro runner aesthetics (reminiscent of the Nike Daybreak) and current style detailing. The Air Max Pre-Day upper features a ‘Liquid Lime’ colorway that is comprised of recycled mixed materials, putting a focus on sustainability. The model also prides itself on the utilization of reductive and circular design elements.
The beauty of using these design principles is honing in on functional style. The reductive construction puts a focus on the core components. The pair is very lightweight, which can be attributed to removing foam and rubber from the midsole. Regarding weight, the Pre-Day sits at a 20% use of recycled materials. That is where the circular design comes in. It is all about creating products that help remove some of the heavy carbon footprint.
The new Pre-Day design adds some extra bounce to your step given it’s engineering and a fully exposed Air unit. We can see sneakHER style hinging on this 70s runner makeup, and a fresh new Air Max being saluted for it’s tooling.

All Nike air soles designed since 2008 contain at least 50% recycled materials and U.S. made Air soles are made with 100% renewable energy.
For the past two years more than 99.9% of Nike’s footwear manufacturing waste has been diverted from landfill.
