The Why Not? Zer0.4 'Empowerment' | First Look
Storytelling is still inspiring us throughout sneaker culture and NBA star Russell Westbrook honed in on this focus when designing his signature shoe - the Why Not? Zer0.4. He enlisted a number of artists that could tap into creative storytelling that led back to his design ethos. Through a mix of Russ’ core values and strength in knowing that your superpower is within, the WNZ.4 has taken on a life of it’s own through inspiring elements. Aside from impactful design, the sneaker caught our attention for a different reason. Our girl, Laci Jordan, was one of the selected artists and we were ecstatic to see her amazing work being highlighted.
Laci Jordan is a multidisciplinary artist that is currently based out of the LA area. Her work is easily recognized through the use of vibrant color palettes and messages of inspiration, which is perfect for the WNZ.4. In Laci’s reinterpretation of the ‘Empowerment’ sneaker through art, she started with hues that gave a nod to the orange/beige WNBA basketball. The sneaker itself features a mashup of textiles and breathability. The construction in the forefoot was equipped with a stacked Zoom Air bag, and the outsole features a full-length Zoom Air bag. The bold colorway ties into the narrative of Russell’s career alongside the mission to empower youth.
