LA Brand 'Come Tees' Debuts Second Converse Collab
Founded by Santa Cruz native Sonya Sombreuil, LA streetwear brand COME TEES captures the heartbeat of Los Angeles artists. Wholly unique, vibrant, and uncompromising in its tough, often grimy aesthetic, COME TEES styles stands out in a crowd.
For Sombreuil, unwavering authenticity is what COME TEES is all about.
“So many brands in this epoch have to rely on partnerships with fake, corporate brands,” said Sombreuil in a past interview with Cultured Mag. “I have a vision of being autonomous. I want to be able to totally control my message and link it to an activist project.”
One of the few larger brands COME TEES has developed an interest in is sneaker authority Converse. The All Star brand has never been one to shy away from standing up for what’s right and uplifting marginalized creatives.
"To me, Converse and the Chuck Taylor, in particular, are symbolically linked with rebel status, subculture, and at the same time a kind of adolescent innocence, to which I feel we can all relate," said Sombreuil in this interview with Highsnobiety. "There's something universal about Converse [that's] very much linked to a passage of time in my life."
For their second collaboration, neon orange, royal blue, and bright green shades come together in a symphony of street grunge. Apparel pieces include a crewneck pullover, fleece pants, tee, and overalls. The apparel line comes spray-painted with the aforementioned vibrant color palette, reminding us of LA airbrush t-shirt vendors. Orange versions of the Chuck 70 (named “Star Path”) come heavily detailed with dome metal studs surrounding layered black and blue leather cutouts on the uppers. A tonal grey-black version of the One Star (named “A Burning Star”) completes the collection, featuring worn suede uppers, adorned with dome studs radiating out from an orange star.
