Before we had the chance to settle in from the recent (and very dope) release of the Aleali May x Air Jordan 1 ‘Califia’ silhouette, the internet began buzzing with her next footwear project. We would be remiss if we said that her designs can be polarizing at first glance. While for some, the Air Jordan 14 isn’t at the top of the wish list, I like that Aleali took the road less traveled when picking what Jordan footwear will get her magic touch next. Note: we can’t count out the Air Jordan 14 as many of you may remember the CLOT collaboration recently and any of the famed Air Jordan 14 retros from decades past.
What we are most interested to see within the soft palette of the Aleali May x Air Jordan 14 Low is the design story. The sneaker, along with the box, feature hits of minty accenting while the upper receives a muted grey suede treatment. The lace unit is draped in a contrasting black, but the green and light mint detailing sit alongside an ornate gold finish along parts of the midsole and outsole. If we had to bet, we know this is tied into something that Aleali is connected to. Many of her sneakers are bold whether that pertains to colorway or materials, and the ladies have been know to dress them up in an elevated sneakHER style way.

We definitely called this one. Our girl Aleali always has a story to tell, and her design ethos is strategically centered around her experiences. This Air Jordan 14 ‘Fortune’ is no different and the shoe represents the pieces of her identity (even down to the Jade accents). Even deeper in that blueprint are the important women in her life that have created windows to a clear view of that identity. Namely paying homage to Aleali’s grandma and Great Tita (Aunt Sue), the Air Jordan 14 ‘Fortune’ sits as symbol of not only what we wear but the moves we make and lives we create. The beautiful elements to Aleali’s storytelling are that she stays rooted in where she comes from while honoring the growth.
