Based on the art and culture of the Renaissance period, Bodega and New Balance joined forces yet again for a rendition of the 9060 model. Inspired by the New Balance 990 and 860 running shoes, the Boston-based companies took the iconic silhouette and decked it out in Beyonce-level goodness. Okay.. maybe not that kind of Renaissance... but the power it holds is the same nonetheless. We’re talking about the historical period that prompted an insurgence of creative thinking and bred some of the most creative minds known to man, the likes of Leonardo daVinci and Michelangelo. This era birthed new roads of thought, knowledge, culture, and architecture. What better than the Bodega x New Balance 9060 “Age of Discovery” sneaker to travel those roads?
The sky blue suede stacked on top of blue mesh uppers mimic the sky of a 12th century oil painting. The earthy panels and hairy brown suede overlays mimic the landscape and architecture of the Renaissance period. The retrofuturistic shoe boasts chunky soles to resemble the hooves of the centaur, the same mythical creature in the painting mentioned above. To add a pop of color, the grape and fluorescent-yellow details were strategically placed on the eyelets and the tongue of the sneaker, catching the eye right when you were ready to look away. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, the multi-colored diamond grip pods on the bottom of the shoe round out the entire design. This model also comes with three lace options, and co-branded insoles visualizing the collaboration between the two brands.
Fun Fact: To show the importance of artistic expression, Bodega went above and beyond in commissioning a Renaissance style painting for this collaboration. The focus of the painting is a centaur reaching up to the sky to catch a shoe box being delivered by a cherub from the heavens. This scene takes place in front of an ancient temple with “Bodega” carved boldly into the stone structure.

The Bodega x New Balance 9060 ‘Age of Discovery’ will be released on Saturday, December 10, 2022. This model also comes with three lace options, and co-branded insoles visualizing the collaboration between the two brands. It will be available online at 12p.m. EST on a first come, first served basis. They will be retailed at $180 USD and will be available in adult sizes ranging from Men’s 4/Women’s 6 to Men’s 15/Women’s 16.5.
