Rick Owens is all gas no breaks with his Converse collaboration. Each drop brings more of the aesthetic that pulled everyone in 2022, more precisely his leather high-top sneakers. The Converse x DRKSHDW TURBODRK Chuck 70 reimagined the classic Chuck Taylor All Star that will forever go down in sneaker history. Parallel to the Chuck 70, the Converse x DRKSHDW TURBOWPN distorts an ‘80s basketball high top. Now, the collaboration brings us two new editions of these sneakers to make our own. The new color combos in both the TURBOWPN and the TURBODRK Chuck 70 birthed an exciting campaign to convey Rick Owens’ inspiration along with the Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, serving looks as his muse. Both of these new editions for Converse x DRKSHDW were featured on our Hot List, and they’re only going to get hotter.
The TURBODRK Chuck 70 is redirected to a zebra-inspired jacquard finish with the same square toe that's made special to the Converse x DRKSHDW Chuck 70 design. Similarly, the elongated tongue remains as well as other original Converse arrangements. This release included accessories in the same zebra-inspired print. Yet, the designer’s commitment to textures and innovation of an acquainted classic, rather than color for this collaboration, makes every drop adaptable. Second in this release was a third edition of the TURBOWPN. This time around, the designer equipped the design’s accent details in an off-white against the predominantly black leather.

Owens shared what inspired bringing New Orleans’ living legend Big Freedia to the DRKSHDW story on the brand’s official Instagram platform. In the caption, the designer announced the latest drop, expressing: “I LOVED HOW BIG FREEDIA IMPROBABLY FORCED A SISSY VOICE INTO RAP MUSIC. NOW, 10 YEARS LATER I HAVE ASKED HIM TO REPRESENT MY COLLAB WITH CONVERSE TO CELEBRATE HIS ENDURING POWER AND FEROCITY IN AN ALL TOO OFTEN NARROW AND JUDGEMENTAL WORLD…” The announcement post features the Queen Diva in the zebra-inspired TURBODRK Chuck 70 moving in slow motion to the known sounds of Triggaman and Brown Beats.
