Sabrina Ionescu Debuts Her Signature Swoosh | First Look
It’s only right that news of one of the faces of women’s basketball over the last few years be laced with her first signature during National Women’s Month.
Sabrina Ionescu and Nike have teamed up to unveil the Nike Sabrina 1, making her the second woman to receive a Nike Basketball signature in the last year. Prior to the release of the Nike DELDON 1, signature of Washington Mystics superstar forward Elena Delle Donne, the Swoosh had strayed away from a basketball womens’ signature for over 15 years. To note, Sabrina is the first women’s basketball player to serve up a unisex signature collection with the powerhouse brand.
The Sabrina 1 embodies its namesake’s propensity to do it all on the court. A multi layered mesh upper features a number of personal details unique to Ionescu, including an intricate pattern that mimics traditional Romanian architecture and pays homage to her Romanian heritage. A bold “S” plays a prominent role in her logo, and a letter “I” wraps around the shoe from the forefoot, under the outsole, and up the shoe’s heel. The final details include horizontal Swoosh decals that symbolize the Ionescu breaking barriers throughout her young, yet illustrious career. Finally, the words “Anyone, Anywhere” embedded into the midsole giving a nod to her competitive nature while reinforcing inclusivity.
Advanced technology adds the proper substance to the Sabrina 1’s style, beginning with full-length React foam and Zoom Air unit in the forefoot for peak explosiveness and responsiveness to match Sabrina’s game on the floor. A Flywire cable system in the midfoot adds lockdown and stabilizes the foot to endure sharp cuts and intense movements.
Initially dropping in three colorways, the Sabrina 1 is set to release in Summer 2023 for $125 and will be accompanied by a matching line of unisex apparel. The capsule includes the Nike Unicorn Sock, which is designed using 80% recycled materials and the first of it’s kind with Dri-FIT ADV materials. If we had to make a prediction, this may level up the sock game.
