Joe Freshgood's "Outside Clothes" Collection Finally Has a Release Date
Reminder: if you didn’t play double dutch, hopscotch, or understand the importance of paying attention to when those streetlights came on, you won’t get this.
As Chicago-based renaissance man Joseph Robinson (aka Joe Freshgoods) continues to remind us all that patience is a virtue, we can’t help but wait for his much-anticipated Sophomore collab with New Balance on a shoe that many of us have been checking for: the brown, green, and blue 990v3s. While the sneaker is definitely why we signed up for Joe’s official mailing list with every email we own, the “Outside Clothes” apparel collection is yet another reason we’re rocking with the Westside.
Joe is a story guy and it’s clear that July and early August were important weeks designed specifically to get us to feel the roots behind both the 990 and a cut-and-sew collection that sees Joe getting more detailed in his design ethos. The story Robinson is trying to tell was beautifully depicted in the mini-film he released, which was directed Mike Carson and scored by Alchemist. Even if you’re not from Chicago’s Westside, if you spent summers playing outside at grandma’s, days filled with hopscotch, jacks, double dutch, bike rides down the block, ham sandwiches, and juice barrels (with the aluminum lid, BTW) , you felt the nostalgia. Many of the scenes were straight out of our own memories, like unc helming the grill wearing socks and sandals, the young girls putting one sneakered foot in to count out turns, or momma making it very clear that you smell like “outside.”
While the raffle for the NB 990v3 is currently underway (raffle closes at 5:00 PM CST on 8/15), we’re finally getting info on the release of this apparel collection and a solid release date. From signature button-downs to colorful short sets and an abundance of embroidery, this particular clothing drop feels like it’s more meaningful and, if we’re honest, more intentional. According to Joe, “This is like my first full cut and sew collection. There’s no blanks. I didn’t use sweatpants that already existed. Everything is crafted how I wanted it to be. Even down to the button.”
