Vans is all about encouraging creative expression through footwear. Their philosophy is centered around taking their classic silhouettes and redesigning them to fit a variety of aesthetics through a wide array of collaborations. One of these guest designers is Sandy Liang, a New York based designer whose interests span across fashion, film, architecture and concept design and transcend into her latest collection with Vans. 

The Vans x Sandy Liang Collection elevates some of Vans’ most beloved styles through Liang’s designs that are inspired by her love of New York, the ‘90s and childhood nostalgia. The collection features an assortment of apparel and sneakers. On the footwear side, six new styles are presented. The oh-so-necessary Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 has an all-over rose embroidered canvas upper that comes in a beautiful Hunter Green shade. Speaking of Hunter Green, the beloved Half Cab 33 DX also gets transformed with green Sherpa uppers and a custom flower eyelet. The Authentic 44 DX comes in two variations - a nostalgic replica of a shoe that Sandy customized herself with scribbles of butterflies back in the day when customs consisted of us taking matters into our own hands and one with multi-colored gingham fabric, a lace collar and a detachable pouch on the tongue. The Style 73 DX features the Sidestripe monaker and a floral embroidery on one side while “Lower East Side Lover” is seen on the other side. A new silhouette is also unveiled in the form of the Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular, a hi-top with a deconstructed slim collar that has novelty lace trim and a removable outsole unit so that the style can be transformed to fit any aesthetic. 

As for apparel and accessories, the same butterfly scribbles seen on the Authentic 44 DX are seen on a tee, pullover and crossbody bag. There is a relaxed-fit heavy weight hoodie in the lineup that is constructed of French terry with custom screen-printed details. An authentic twill chino pant includes novelty embroidery at the back pocket, interior waistband and at the bottom of the leg cuff so it can peek out when the pants are rolled up. A khaki bucket hat in cotton canvas is given a Spring refresh with daisy embroidery around the brim while the nylon crossbody bag makes for the perfect accessory to carry all of your essentials while you’re on the go. Liang couldn’t forget her quintessential fleece design and added an all-over printed Sherpa mock neck jacket along with a matching Sherpa crossbody that has the multi-color floral with butterfly Sherpa on one side and a quilted nylon back panel on the other.
