Nike Spring/Summer 2022 Collection | First Look

The face that fashion (particularly fast fashion) and the footwear industry are some of the biggest contributors or pollution that is detrimental to our environment. The Swoosh has been giving us more sustainable options in recent months in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint produced by the sneaker industry. All of these innovations are leading towards hitting its 2025 sustainability targets like reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by half a million tons and diverting 100 percent of waste from its extended supply chain out of landfills. In a recent update from Nike they are giving us a look at how their Spring/Summer 2022 lineup is putting mother nature first.

The Nike Spring/Summer 2022 Collection covers popular apparel and footwear silhouettes from the brand and shows the impact Nike can have when it scales its innovations. On the Nike Sportswear side, each piece in the capsule is made with at least 50 percent recycled and/or organic materials with the iconic Windrunner jacket made with at least 75 percent recycled TPU. At the intersection of design and sports innovation, we have Nike’s Tech Pack which is designed for versatility and engineered for comfort. Materials are meticulously chosen and circular design-driven principles result in pieces made with at least 50 percent recycled and/or organic content, including recycled polyester, recycled nylon, and organic cotton fibers. With insulation made of recycled fibers and dying processes that require fewer chemicals than conventional methods, style and quality is still maintained. Finally, for Nike Pro, we’re going to continue to see more of the same in terms of pieces being made with at least 50 percent recycled polyester.

Within the footwear department, we’ll be seeing Nike Air continue to see more innovation with more sustainable choices being made such as the use of more synthetic leather and recycled polyester in the shoe’s construction. The Air Max 90, 95 and 97 are now made with at least 25 percent recycled synthetic leather and 100 percent recycled polyester. The contemporary designs and sensational comfort of the Nike Air Max 2021, Air Max Dawn and Air Max Motif are also now being created with at least 20 percent recycled content by weight. Classic Nike silhouettes aren’t going anywhere and are being reimagined to continue to deliver iconic style and have less environmental impact. Some of Nike’s most recognizable silhouettes are made with at least 20 percent recycled content by weight and feature some combination of recycled polyester, recycled synthetic leather and Nike Grind rubber. Finally, the Nike Sun Club collection takes the Nike Air Max Pre-Day, Nike Blazer Low ’77 NN, Nike Air Force 1 LV8 NN and Nike Court Vision Lo NN are constructed of recycled textile uppers, recycled synthetic suede and recycled laces for for sneakers that are made with at least 20 percent recycled content by weight.
