Pangaia's 'Re-Color' Capsule Gives Old Textiles New Purpose
Pangaia, a materials science company, has been a pioneering innovator of sustainable clothing production methods. The name ‘Pangaia’ was created by combining the words ‘Pan’, meaning all-inclusive, and ‘Gaia’, meaning Mother Earth. A team of scientists, designers, and technologists, Pangaia aims to solve environmental issues within the fashion industry with their patented clothing recycling methods.
The ‘Re-Color’ capsule collection is the eco-conscious brand’s latest apparel release. The company has implemented their patented Recycrom™ dye technology for the line, wherein old textile leftovers have been pulverized into fine pigment powders. These powders were used to dye the collection, resulting in a beautiful array of pastel shades. Bonus: this dye is easily filtered out from the water used during production, saving gallons upon gallons of water that is wasted during typical dyeing processes. The collection includes 100% organic cotton hoodies, track pants, t-shirts, and shorts. Each item comes with its own unique QR code, which you can scan with your smart phone to learn more about the production method and circularity of your piece.
This collection comes in five different colors. Each color has a nature-themed shade name paired with a unique description provided on the Pangaia site.
“Sky Blue: A muted homage to the refraction of light in the atmosphere.”
“Apricot Orange: A member of the rose family, this muted apricot shade is both delicate and mellow.”
“Aloe Green: Inspired by the healing properties and soothing tones of the Aloe Vera succulent.”
“Coral Pink: A source of inspiration on the reefs that we love, this shade is an homage to coral spawning season.”
“Banana Yellow: Technically a berry, our muted banana shade is inspired by the wonder fruit.”
