Jordan Brand Announces First NIL Signing
2021 marked the beginning of change as the NCAA decided to make adjustments to their policy, which would now allow college athletes to make money from their image or name. This decision came as a surprise, but a welcome one, as it should have been this way all along. This was phenomenal news for the college athletes who reside in the states where this legislation passed. Now, Jordan Brand has signed their first NIL athlete in Kiki Rice.
Rice is an incoming freshman at UCLA and is one of the most decorated players from her class. Rice will be joining a roster of women athletes at Jordan Brand who are making it their mission to continue amplifying their voices in the game. When asked about how does it feel to be Jordan’s first NIL athlete, Rice stated, “it’s an incredible milestone, and I think it’s a testament to the hard work I’ve put in and all the people around me who have helped me get to this point. Signing with the Jordan Brand is another motivating factor for me to continue to work hard and achieve my goals.”
Collaboratively, Rice and Jordan plan to serve Rice’s local community and improve gender equity in sport for young girls. “My advice to young athletes, especially young girls who want to play at the next level, is to stay confident and don’t let someone else tell you what you can and can’t do. You’re the only one who can determine your limits, and there’s no reason why you can’t achieve the things you set your mind to,” says Rice.
This is just a small taste of things to come and we can’t wait to see which other NIL athletes Jordan Brand decides to welcome into the family.
