The Air Jordan IV 'BRED': Rooted in Retros
Classics never die, and the Jumpman has a special way of reminding us of that fact. When the Air Jordan IV ‘Bred’ first released, the year was 1989. Many of us were too young to realize the icon that Michael Jordan was already becoming on the hardwood. While we continue to celebrate MJ’s greatness and classic lineage of silhouettes, seasoned sneaker lovers are in a frenzy over the Air Jordan IV’s return of the ‘Bred’. The shoe seen around the world as MJ landed his first truly iconic game winning shot in the NBA (and the rest is history). We are not only swooning over the coveted pair hitting the shelves, but we are also celebrating it's 30th anniversary.
To us that have connected OG Air Jordan colorways to his time on the court (and our time being fly in our childhoods), the importance of details make all the difference. From the smell as you open a fresh box of kicks, to creating our own unique sneaker style - the Jumpman has been at the forefront of rotations in cities like mine [Houston] for decades. With that being said, Jordan Brand throws it back to it's roots for this release. We have a special #MJMondays as we revisit the stomping grounds of the neighborhood I grew up in - Third Ward. With some help from H-town stylist Megan Sheppard, we show you how to rotate this retro channeling a sporty chic vibe.
“When I’m wearing Jordans, it’s all about [style] and [comfort]. I live in a crop top and baggy jeans, and putting these pieces together with a red lip and bold earrings would give this outfit the ultimate sneakHER style.”
- Stylist Megan Sheppard
Rooted in originality and nostalgia, this AJ4 leans on the design details from when they first released in the 80s. The return of the "Nike Air" branding is a major component that hasn't been seen since the 1999 AJ4 Bred retro release.
Original design details that add to our excitement include the "Nike Air" hangtag, OG box packaging, plus the tongue/upper/cage material that are constructed of nubuck, leather, and mesh. The 'Bred' hues of black, summit white, and gym red are complimented by cement grey accents throughout.
The hype is continuing to build daily with members of the sneaker community not just wanting one pair, but strategically planning to 'double up' and grab the grail for the entire family. The Air Jordan IV 'Bred' release will feature unisex sizing for the first time, while showing love to the small feet tribe with full family sizing.
The Air Jordan IV 'Bred' will be releasing on May 4th via SNKRS App and Jordan stockists for $200 USD (adult sizing). Stay locked and SHOP THE SNEAKS below on release day! Two words - DONT. SLEEP.
