Sneaker Diary: Straight from the Zoom Meeting with the Converse Run Star Hike
Let’s be honest. We need a break. While navigating the global pandemic concerns and finding ways to professionally school our co-workers around all things BLM, mental breaks have been essential. As our environment has began to adjust to new ways of working, it’s critical to take a deep breath and unwind. Essentially, stepping away from that Zoom meeting to do something you that brings you joy. Regardless if moments of small joy have to safely happen inside the walls of our residences, we can all get creative.
I have been especially cautious of being out and about in these Houston streets. While I miss the occasional Sunday Funday just like the next person, I’ve been seeking ways to elevate a brunch or dining experience after a long work day. What’s better than converting your comfortable sneakHER style for a night in? I can honestly say that the mantra of “frugal and fine” is a blueprint during these challenging times. With that said, I do mean saving some coins by staying inside and even leaning into a consistent workout routine to reduce the workplace stress and keep our immune system strong.
What about the kicks though? On this particular night, the move was heading straight from the Zoom meeting to dinner and drinks with the Mister. I opted to take an inexpensive off-the-shoulder maxi dress and add the comfy Converse Run Star Hike silhouette for some added style (and height). I’m 5’2 and these have served as a go-to for easy styling. Ladies love versatile options and this particular Run Star Hike has a breathable upper which is perfect for the sweltering heat in Texas. Pairing the black pair with a soft purple sock gave me some added pops of color to compliment the sneaker. I’m not a huge bag fan, but added accessories like this convertible purse allowed me to keep my lip gloss and keys inside while we took a night stroll.

Ending the night with a special dinner was the perfect way to decompress and just be in the moment, which has been a spiritual practice I’ve been mindful of these last few months. We supported one of our chef homies, who is also a sneakerhead. Chef Wendell threw down in the kitchen serving up steak, salmon, blue mashed potatoes, asparagus and a trio of appetizers. Side note: Let’s all continue to support Black-owned businesses especially in our local areas. If you’re in Houston, check out Chef Wendell.
