WNBA Star Breanna Stewart Signs With PUMA and Will Release a Signature Shoe
With the tipoff of the WNBA’s 25th anniversary season this weekend, we’re excited to see what the ladies are doing on and off the court. With the buzz of conversation centered around equity in the WNBA, we are hopeful to see movement in the right direction. Specifically, in the sneaker world, there have not been an abundance of WNBA signature shoes. To give some context to numbers, 18 NBA players will embark on signature shoes this season, while there have only been 9 signature shoes in the WNBA since inception back in 1996. With that said, it has been a decade since Candace Parker’s signature pair. That changes now.
PUMA recently signed WNBA Finals MVP Breanna Stewart, who hails from the Seattle Storm. More importantly, she will also be designing her own signature shoe. The Seattle Storm came out victorious in their opening game against the Las Vegas Aces, as Breanna bucketed 28 points. She has had some bounce back moments in her basketball career and aims to tell a story through her sneaker. In reports, Breanna noted that she wants her sneaker to be for all walks of life (and that it will probably be a low top design).
When can we anticipate Breanna’s signature sneaker? As her multi-year shoe partnership commences, we are keeping on our radar on for updates. The design process can sit on a lengthy timeline, but we are elated to see where the partnership goes. There is no doubt that Breanna’s basketball skills were star status even before drafted #1 overall in 2016, and her advocacy off the court is just as important. We hope that her partnership with PUMA will create a cascade with other WNBA players being in the forefront of sneaker design.
