Event Recap: Air Max Day, The Chicago Way

When the beginning of March comes around, fans of one of Nike’s most coveted sneakers look forward to March 26th, Air Max Day. Some of us even celebrate the whole month by wearing our favorite sneakers from the iconic silhouette. This year Nike shifted its focus to the Air Max 270 which is strikingly different than last years release the Nike Air Vapormax.
This year we celebrated AIR, 99 floors up at the Sears Tower (Us Chicagoans will never call it Willis) with Nike Chicago to celebrate its newest family member, the 270.
The Nike Air Gallery consisted of artwork from some of Chicago’s local artists who reinterpreted the Air Max 270 through their own unique lenses. Artwork by Stuk One, Evan Sheehan, Alex + Aleia and Diana Pietrzyk filled the space 1500 feet in the air.
Amongst the beautiful art, attendees were able to shop exclusive items which included stickers, coffee mugs, notebooks, pencils, and my favorite the clear beach ball. However, the fun didn’t stop there. There also was a custom t-shirt area where you could chose the design and color you wanted on your white or black tee Nike Tee.
For this event I thought it would be fun to wear my Nike Vapormax Plus in the "Tropical Sunset" colorway. I grabbed these on the day they released at Nike Chicago. I paired these colorful sneaks with a yellow faux leather jacket from Zara because what's a party without some bright colors? I loved this jacket because even though it isn't leather it doesn't have that shiny fake look to it!
I also added another favorite of mine which are these black vinyl pants from Akira. I've worn these about three times and trust me I might wear them again before the weather breaks. These are just fun and can add a nice element to any outfit. Paired it all with a black tee and called it a day!
This event was apart of a weekend of events curated by Nike Chicago that showcased Air in many ways. Many local Chicago boutiques had events such as POGO in Lincoln Park and Saint Alfred in Wicker Park that hosted Sean Wotherspoon. There also were many in-store activations as well that gave everyone an opportunity to shop and experience Air.
It was amazing to see everyone wearing their favorite shoes and enjoying themselves at this one of a kind event. The city of Chicago made sure to show their Air in a way that will be unforgettable.
