Event Recap: CNK's PowHER Forward Mentor Workshop on 'Building Bigger Before Burnout'
One of our core values at CNK Daily is to be of service. But what does it truly mean to SERVE? While we love to educate, empower, and inspire women through our common bond of sneakers, we align our passion + purpose to design spaces for the young ladies who got NEXT. What we mean is the young creatives and soon-to-be entrepreneurs that are blossoming in that next phase of life. Let us reintroduce you to our PowHER Forward Mentor Workshops.
The idea of mentoring workshops with a cool twist was birthed through self-reflection in the sneaker space. Our mission is to unlock the superpowers that we all have and yet may not have had access to positive voices as teenagers, that would essentially help us uncover and nurture our talents.
So, what is PowHER Forward exactly? Through a series of immersive mentor workshops, PowHER Forward is meant to engage and empower the GenZ BIPOC demographic. We believe the next generation of thought leaders, content creators, and future trailblazers are just getting started. If you’re new around here, our goal is still to plant the seeds, create the sparks, and give consistent support to these young women. Sometimes the secret ingredient is meeting people where they are.
We feel humbled and blessed to work as a conduit between creative expression and IRL topics that our youth are already talking about amongst themselves. Why not utilize our amazing network of CNK community leaders to serve as real live representation? The next generation needs to see themselves in every industry.
Last month, we teamed up with an amazing woman who also happens to be a teacher and sneaker lover - Jeremy Gant. She not only understands our love language of giving back and using our platform for positive reinforcement, but she is great at relating to young women through her gift of authenticity. Jeremy led a workshop called “Building Bigger Before Burnout”. If we’re being honest, we needed this message just as much as the young women in attendance.
The lesson did a deep dive into the ‘POWER of YOU’ and how we all face the duality of wins + losses in life. The key foundation is that we give ourselves grace and lean into the affirming words to ourselves at any given time. Establishing some type of routine for self-care is essential for any age. Teenagers go through so much (we’ve all been there), especially in the fast paced world of social media, and we need to spark conversations on how to navigate adversity in all its possible forms.
The young ladies participated in an activity of writing affirmations to each other and discussing what it means to show up for yourself and others. The art and science of writing things down is not just a therapeutic practice, but also a reminder of the grace we all owe ourselves from time to time.
As we continue to find unique avenues of pouring into our youth, we want to thank everyone who has contributed to this important initiative. A special shoutout to our workshop teachers, BeSocial, and the current cohort of beautiful young women from Agape Development. Agape leads an after school youth ministry program in the Southside of Houston where neighborhoods are often overlooked and underserved.
We are excited to continue our journey to ‘keep doors open’ for the next tribe of young women to walk through. The most important element that young women need to see alongside representation is proximity to resources. As we continuously put in the work to build this program, we aim to create that accessibility, one workshop at a time.
