Nike Continues The Drive For EQUALITY With a New Be True Collection
Nike continues the drive for LGBTQ causes after announcing a new 'Be True' collection set for release tomorrow, June 1.
For those of you unfamiliar with the initiative, it all started six years ago as a an employee-led grassroots program inspired by the benefits diversity can bring to communities and workplaces. It has since grown into an annual campaign centred around new rainbow themed collections which have helped raised around $2.5m in the US for LGBT causes.
This year's line (which you can swipe through above) includes both footwear and apparel set in rainbow hues and including other symbols of Pride.
Nike's LGBT network leader, Rober Gorman, said the brand's focus was to "create something that people could unite around to show their support for LGBTQ athletes."
Sneakers included in the mix? The Nike Classic Cortez, Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34, Air VaporMax and Nike Flyknit Racer. The collection will also include Dri-FIT tanks, t-shirts and running socks for both men and women.
This year, the Be True campaign adds to the list of Nike's EQUALITY initiative, which all started with a push from Nike atheletes like Serena Williams and LeBron James as they came together in the 'Equality' short film released in February. The brand also announced, earlier this year, that it was developing a sports hijab for female athletes.
