Nike's Día de Muertos Collection | Release Date
Although Latin Heritage Month is coming to a close, that does not mean we will not continue to celebrate those who came before us and shaped our culture for generations to come. Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations begin on 11/01, a holiday observed by Mexican’s to remember family members who have passed. Nike’s latest collection pays homage to family and serves as a reminder of heritage.
The Nike Día de Muertos Collection focuses on intrinsic colors, patterns and materials and employs Marigold as a collecting thread throughout the collection. Additional inspiration for the collection came from Día de Los Muertos’s traditional ofrendas (altars) and colors, patterns and crafted details taking inspo from handmade artwork of papel picado and flowers typically seen at these ofrendas.
The collection includes 4 silhouettes to choose from: an Air Max 90, a DBreak Type, a Blazer Mid and an Air Jordan 1 Mid. Each shoe features a marigold, hunter green, and plum color palette that will fit right into your fall wardrobe. The importance of family and heritage is further exemplified through “Para Mi Familia” messaging on the DBreak Type heel and the toe of the Air Jordan 1. Two tee options and a hoodie option round out the collection.
