The design duo Staud and New Balance are promoting their “Classic Then, Classic Now” collection, a fall 2021 release of vintage-inspired colorways of the 574 and 57/40. The release celebrates the legacy of the 574 silhouette (see above) and the new generation of New Balance ushered in by the 57/40. The colors picked out for the two are reminiscent of 80s workout culture and sports hype of the time; they remind us of sports trading cards, Advertising content for the collection is retro as well, with a bold Kabel-esque font and cream textured background images.
STAUD x New Balance have decked out the classic 574 (originally released in 1988) and 2021’s 57/40 in primary colors. Red, blue, green, and yellow color blocks stand out on the all white and grey uppers. The 574 sports vibrant red and yellow “N” symbols on the inner and outer sides while the 57/40’s “N” symbols are true blue. Warm brown rubber outsoles and STAUD branding on the insoles and tongues finish the playful look.
