Since Yoon Ahn’s sneak peek of her Nike x AMBUSH Dunk High back in September we have been asking all types of questions. When is the shoe releasing? What was the inspiration behind such a disruptive yet simple sneaker? Is there apparel to match? Here, we’re breaking down the answers to those questions and let's just say, this collection does not disappoint.
Images of the Nike x AMBUSH Dunk High have been floating around for a few months now. Although we have seen the sneaker in all its glory, we haven’t heard much about the inspiration behind the design. The Dunk High was taken to new heights and given an elongated Swoosh logo that was inspired by a combination of Japanese car, bike and truck culture. Yoon asked herself “How can I make the shoes almost look like this moving thing?” and thus, emerged the fire Dunk High we’ve all been waiting for.

What has been recently uncovered is an apparel collection to match. The Nike x AMBUSH NBA Collection delivers an energetic attitude, signature AMBUSH detailing and fresh styling to female basketball fans. In Yoon’s words, the project began as a conversation around making women proud to support their favorite teams without sacrificing style. Yoon reimagined LA Lakers and Brooklyn Nets apparel and came up with a 6 piece collection. The archetypal tearaway basketball warm-up pant is transformed into a seasonally-appropriate, insulated trouser that features a contrasting double waist band to resemble game shorts peeking under warm-up pants. Form-fitting long-sleeve tops take us back to OG NBA jersey aesthetics while the collection’s two jackets takes us back to the ‘90s with features like bold team word marks across the chest.
“I thought of all these amazing and strong female characters from the ’90s who would come out in men’s clothes, and I wanted to see how we could carry that attitude, but bring in more feminine forms”
WHEN IS THE NIKE X AMBUSH NBA COLLECTION RELEASING?
Breaking the mold and creating the conversation around women in areas where they are often overlooked is always applauded. So, when can we expect a release? The Swoosh has put out official word that the Nike x AMBUSH NBA Collection will be dropping globally on 12/11.
