Natalie White founded Moolah Kicks to Support Women Basketball Players
Natalie White grew up an avid basketball fan in New York. She saw a gap in the athletic sneaker industry and used her resources and access to fill it. At only 23, White set out to change the landscape of women’s hoops with the creation of the first and only female centric basketball sneaker brand “made by female ballers for female ballers”, Moolah Kicks, in 2001.
Frustrated by the lack of inclusivity for female hoopers, White maximized her time as a basketball team manager at Boston College to build a sneaker that, unlike traditional basketball sneakers that are created conventionally from male molds, was tailored to the needs, such as a more narrow heel, lifted arch, slimmer width, and shallow lateral side, according to the Moolah website, of women basketball players.
After working with footwear vets and constructing quite the advisory board that includes Ryka CEO Sheri Poe and former Saucony CEO John Fisher, the groundbreaking shoe hit shelves May of 2022 and skyrocketed. In two short years, the Moolah product page now includes multiple colorways of its two models, the Phantom 1 and the Neovolt Pro.
Moolah kicks have also been spotted on numerous high school and college courts, including being the official sneaker of Junior College Division 1 National Champion Barton County Community College. Moolah Kicks also has a budding WNBA roster with the signings of Indiana Fever Point Guard Destanni Henderson and Chicago Sky spark plug Courtney Williams.
As the women’s game continues to grow, so will the importance of pioneers like Natalie White and Moolah Kicks. Now sold in over 400 doors, including Dicks Sporting Goods, Moolah Kicks is looking to add to its product line, including a possible low top iteration. There is little doubt that Moolah Kicks is, and will continue to be, a force to be reckoned with in womens’ basketball.
