Why Is This Jordan Brand WMNS x Vogue Collaboration Epic?

Rewind to this morning. The CNK Crew is discussing editorial and being your typical sneakHER fashion police as we scroll through the social media streets. All of a sudden, I receive an email that makes me do a double take (which means it's time to share in the CNK group chat). Jordan Brand is dropping it's first ever collaboration of sneakers with Vogue Magazine. Yes, we said V-O-G-U-E. Vogue is an iconic fashion and lifestyle magazine that has actually been in publication for over 100 years. The editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has teamed up with Jordan Brand Women to release two remastered Jumpman classics.

Both silhouettes are co-branded with Anna Wintour's moniker "AWOK" also known as "Anna Wintour OKAY" - which she utilizes when putting her approval stamp on editorial or creative production with her Vogue team.

Now to the best part - the sneakers. The AJ x Vogue collaboration consists of the timeless Air Jordan III and the latest model released during the Jordan Women's Collecton; the Air Jordan 1 High Zip. Both pairs are dope within their own lanes. Many of us sneaker lovers can say that an Air Jordan III is in our top 5 picks of all time. Vogue puts a savvy twist on this WMNS exclusive by dressing them in tweed and a black heel with Anna's signature "AWOK". The details give a nod to Anna's suits and sunglasses, and we think it's a very fresh way to symbolize such a strong woman from the Vogue brand. It's all in the details, right? The AJ3 SE also comes with an 'Edited by Vogue' hang tag to complete the look. Check out teaser snaps below.

The WMNS Air Jordan 1 High Zip sticks to a minimalist yet premium feel, but includes a Swoosh on the upper which is a great detail added to the pair. The metallic zipper, Vogue hang tags, and "AWOK" on tongue and outsole drive the fly simplicity of this luxe collaboration. Who doesn't love a classy sneaker? The icing on the cake is the presentation - premium box with suede dust bags.

While we feel like these sneakers are a dope representation of the right way to reimagine kicks for us (ladies) - the conversation goes deeper than just the shoes. It crosses over into how high fashion is beginning to recognize sneaker culture and how they are overlapping more and more. You see more kicks on runways, and we get a front row seat to streetwear moguls (Hey Virgil!) crossing over into the world of high-end fashion design with luxury brands.

The question is... does this take away from the origins of sneaker culture and how our passion for kicks is not just a trend, but something we have grown up with. Sneakers aren't just about childhood sports icons anymore, it's becoming about lifestyle. While the two niches of fashion and sneakers is constantly evolving, it's important to also see the significance of VOGUE paying attention to a classic brand like Jordan that was built off of a legendary athlete - the great Michael Jordan.

As our EIC at CNK Daily put it "It's solidifying women as a significant buying force in a way (and in a culture) that we haven't seen before." Our Style Editor at CNK also touched on how it could impact female consumers from a price point perspective. Basically, we have questions but for now we are going to happily stack our coins for these releases.

You can catch the WMNS Air Jordan III SE sneaker to drop in two colorways on September 7th right in time for fall SZN. The WMNS Air Jordan 1 High Zip will also release in two colorways and be available via Jordan stockists (listed below) on July 21st; and on the SNKRS App on July 23rd. The Air Jordan 1 High Zip has a price tag of $220 USD and we have added the SHOP THE SNEAKS button below for the both colorways. We will keep our crew updated on price of the AJIII SE.
