Sneaker Diary: Keeping Warm with Cozy Girl Squad

A few weeks ago, I headed to NYC for some meetings, an upcoming Chick Chat interview and to capitalize on a last minute change of scenery. Luckily, I was hella productive while I was there and even got the chance to link with Donette Lowe, HCIC at Cozy Girl Squad for a jaunt around China Town. After bonding over our shared love of sneakers, comfy clothes, and discovering that we're actually sorority sisters (OOO-OOP!) the day was pretty much like hanging around with an old friend.

Since it was the beginning of December, you already know that it was most definitely sweater/full on coat weather in NY. So, we donned a few winter-weather favorites courtesy of our friends at Nike Women and hit the streets, stopping in at Starbucks for some breakfast/morning coffee and to put in motion the plan for that afternoon's ultimate destination: KITH or bust.

Along the way, we snapped some shots in some of Nike's best ways to keep warm this winter while still keeping it cute. Win? WIN.

Early morning in lower Manhattan in early December? Hello, cold. However, I've got to say that Donette and I were both pretty warm (well, except for our hands) with me in the Nike Sportswear Tech Fleece Aeroloft Cape with matching Tech Fleece Pants and her in a NikeLab Transform Jacket and Nike Sportswear Tech Fleece Pants.

Surprisingly light, all of the pieces were easy to move in and kept our cores warm, even if our hands weren't quite as lucky. I'd actually had my eye on the Night Maroon cape after spotting it on Sanya Richards-Ross at a recent Nike x Nordstrom event in Chicago. We both made our China Town moves in trainers that were comfortable enough to pound the pavement in. While I opted for a pair of Nike Air Zoom Strong sneaks I came upon back in November, Donette kept it simple in the Nike Lunarcharge that just dropped back in December.

When you live in a colder climate, the one thing you need besides items that keep you warm are items that keep you warm AND are super versatile. As Donette and I both had dinner plans after our jaunt around the Big Apple, we opted to switch out our gear in order to make sure we'd be prepared for our post-snap plans. Lucky for us, we were able to snag items that not only went well with our dinner wear, BUT kept us toasty in 30 degree temps. I paired a midi dress from Naked Wardrobe with a pair of high wool socks, a fresh pair of NikeLab x Sacai Dunks and the Nike Aerolayer Training Vest. The vest, which also features a super high neckline, doubled as a bit of a makeshif scarf that allowed me to keep my face warm as I hailed a cab.

Donette opted to layer up in a Nike Therma-Sphere Training Top, her own midi jacket, and Nike Sportswear Tech Knit Leggings. She rounded out the look with a pair of comfy Nike Tennis Classics, because walking around NYC in heels is a heck-to-the-nah. I really don't see how some of you ladies do it.

Definitely can't wait to hit NYC again this Spring when temps warm up!
