Sneaker Diary: Canadian Tux Meets NikeLab
I hope you all are having a great week! Thus far, I've been a bit drained (but more productive) thanks to my shifting schedule. I set a goal to wake up an hour earlier than normal this quarter and, well, it definitely didn't happen in January or February. As we tackle the first week in March, I'm getting into my original goal and, yea..what was I thinking!?! Plus, 9-5 work, blog work and finding time to work on the business side of CNK has me unashamed to say that Friday can't get here quick enough. Of course, there will be more work - just while curled up at a coffee shop.
If you've been following along with our Sneaker Diaries, you're probably aware that last week I was all about the brunch at Happiest Hour. Lucky for me, the Dallas hot spot has an amazing view of the city and I got the opportunity to grab a drink (just tonic and lime, guys) while we shot one of my favorite pairings: the Canadian Tux. This particualr fit is one of my favorite go-to's for both a casual work option that easily transitions to happy hour or to a game time look. Since Happiest Hour is so close to our American Airlines Arena where the Dallas Mavs play, it's easy to pop in for a cocktail before tip off.
I'm a big fan of simplicity so, I've always been a fan of this simple (yet put together) look. Since many of the things I wear are staple clothing items; meaning I can pair them with something casual like jeans or leggings or something more dressy like a pencil skirt or a dress and it works the same. That's why I love this denim shirt by Nasty Gal, it's something I can pair with different fits. I got it on sale for under $50 so, I definitely feel like I'm getting my monies worth. The same goes for shoes. I actually was gifted these NikeLab Blazer Studio sneaks back in November when I had the opportunity to visit Nike HQ in Portland. I've been waiting to pull them out of the box and this seemed the perfect opportunity.
For over 40 years the Nike Blazer has remained a go-to for those who love retro classics. This premium option comes with a buttery leather upper, low-top profile and subtle retro branding on the tongue. This may not be the most eye-catching sneaker in the world, but it's definitely one that is simple, essential and, above all, versatile.
I really do love these shoes, however, they are a bit tough to wear with socks given the small silhouette and because of the premium leather you'll need to break them in before they feel super comfortable. I would recommend investing in baby powder to sprinkle on the inside to keep your shoes from getting smelly.
