Sneaker Diary: Sneakeasy CHI Edition

It’s only right that we did a special edition of Sneaker Diary here on CNK. I had the opportunity to attend the Sneakeasy events here in Chicago and finally wear my Air Max 97’s! I already knew what shoes I would wear on Air Max day since I was able to get my hands on a pair of Air Max 97's from NikeLab Chi back in December. I’ve been waiting on the ideal opportunity to wear them and Air Max Day couldn’t have been more perfect.

My obsession with this shoe started as a kid and I can’t even remember how old I was but I remember my auntie Monet having them chilling beside her bed. I remembered the distinct style of the shoe because of the metallic silver upper and ever since then I was determined to get a pair. I called up NikeLab on two occasions put them on hold once and finally went ahead and got them on the second reserve.

I’m thankful that I went ahead and purchased cause I’m pretty sure the resale value is through the roof and I do like to save my coins a bit!

Nike introduced it’s Air Cushioning Technology in 1979 and you can see how the air technology advanced over the years and the Air Max 97 is a good example of what was to come. While at the Sneakeasy event I was stopped a couple of times by people who told me that these were their favorite Air Max and one can easily see why they love it so much. From the metallic silver upper to the 3M on the sneaker it’s just a super fresh design, which stood out from its predecessor the Air Max 96. I was also too shy when the Ekin asked, “who did I see with these on?” during their history of Air Max tour but the room saw me (lol).

Far as clothing goes, I’m always wearing something black so I decided to switch it up and give myself a pop of color. It also happened to be doing a little raining on the day of the event so I opted for a neon orange beanie from Urban Outfitters. This hat has literally been my pop of color for the last couple of weeks. I also decided to keep everything else pretty ‘neutral’ with a Lil’ Uzi Vert t-shirt and black denim from Urban Outfitters as well. I also decided on a light wash denim jacket from Topman because men’s jackets look better than the women’s in my opinion. But, I also wanted something to keep halfway warm just in case. If you rock with Lil’ Uzi Vert like I do, you can get the tee here and beanie here . Looks like these items have a little sale going on now as well.

The highlight of the night for me was the opportunity to be part of the first group of people to customize a pair of VaporMax on NikeID. It was super cool that Nike gave us access to customize the shoe before it become available to the public and I was just super excited. I decided to go with the VaporMax with a multi-colored upper and clear sole. I also included a reflective silver Nike swoosh becuase a girl loves her some 3M (love that glow!) with Volt heel tabs that read "Bae" and "TDD." If you've ever customized something on NikeID before then you know the process is fairly easy and I went through this with a breeze. Can't wait to see these babies arrive at my home!

So tell me, how did you celebrate Air Max Day?
